It stings but it’s the bee all to end all tattoos

It stings but it’s the bee all to end all tattoos

Skinial business owner Wendy Peters said this system, which was developed in Germany, is growing in popularity across Europe.

"I have been testing different types of tattoo removal, trying to find a system that works. I've been using a tattoo machine for 13 years," Wendy said.

"But nothing ever worked like this."

The Skinial solution is applied through a tattoo machine and the process feels almost identical to getting a tattoo.

"It's a very new type of tattoo machine. It just uses a single sealed cartridge, then you throw it away, it's very hygienic.

"It stings the first time. It stings less the second time and the third time you can barely feel it."

Wendy said the solution made the body's natural defence system push the ink to the surface.

"The body recognises the ink under the skin as a foreign substance and the solution helps your body to reject the ink and push it to the surface where it becomes part of a scab," she said.

"Your body disperses the solution within 30 minutes of the treatment.

"You need to leave eight weeks between treatments so your skin can heal properly.

"Because your body is producing brand new skin we want to make sure that the skin is fully healed.

"We work in small circles at each treatment because your body can cope with small wounds without scarring.

"And it removes all colours. 99.9% of the time we can remove the entire tattoo. We can accurately estimate how many treatments you will need."

Skinial

COST: Cheaper than laser because less sessions needed

PROS: Affordable, effective

CONS: Treatment site leaves small scabs which take a couple of weeks to heal

PAIN FACTOR: About the same as getting the tattoo.

CONCLUSION: Results are promising and the system is taking off overseas.
